Behind the Scenes with Kao Kalia Yang

Earlier this week I shared an excerpt of my conversation with Kao Kalia Yang about her memoir, Where Rivers Part: A Story of My Mother’s Life, which will be released in March, 2024.

Today I’m sharing the full video of our conversation and the transcript for two pivotal moments in the book: a hospital scene where Kalia’s mother and father renew their commitment to each another after her mother’s attempted suicide, and the final scene, where Kalia’s mother travels back to Laos to visit her own mother’s grave for the first time.
