I found this really useful, Josh. I'm thinking of putting my memoir essays together into a book and am trying to work out a narrative arc to bring them together. Your suggestions here have prompted me to think a little differently. Thank you.

That's encouraging -- thanks, June! I think the planning stage is often the most difficult. Revision is hard, too, but I think good planning also saves work later on.

Thank you, Beth! I'm excited about tackling your project soon. Maybe we can talk about some things that I'd have done differently with that memoir if I were writing it today :). I didn't start my planning stage until a lot of those chapters had already been written as stand-alone pieces, which is not the best method. 😊
