I found this really useful, Josh. I'm thinking of putting my memoir essays together into a book and am trying to work out a narrative arc to bring them together. Your suggestions here have prompted me to think a little differently. Thank you.
That's encouraging -- thanks, June! I think the planning stage is often the most difficult. Revision is hard, too, but I think good planning also saves work later on.

I didn't start my planning stage until a lot of those chapters had already been written as stand-alone pieces, which is not the best method. 😊
